Rare early example from the renowned Jens Risom β this Model 37 sofa dates to the 1940s and exemplifies the designer's hallmark Scandinavian-meets-American modernist sensibility. The sofa features a gently reclined backrest accented by a row of five button-tufted details along the upper back, low sculpted paddle arms, and a single continuous bench seat. The frame is crafted in dark walnut with characteristically angular, splayed legs joined by a stretcher rail along the base. Upholstered in a heathered oatmeal woven wool fabric in warm beige tones.
Jens Risom (1916β2016) was a pioneering figure of mid-century Scandinavian design in America, celebrated for his elegant, functional furniture that bridged Danish craftsmanship with American modernism. His early 1940s pieces β produced in limited quantities β are among the most collectible of the era.
Offered in vintage as-pictured condition with patina consistent with age and use. A rare opportunity to own an early example of American modernist design by one of the greats.

Condition
As pictured: cleaned, with drawers, doors and structure in working order. The original finish and its wear are left as they are.
Restored: fully refinished in our New Jersey workshop. The old finish is removed, chips and scratches are repaired, and the piece is sanded, stained, glazed, toned and lacquered by hand, with drawers, doors and hardware adjusted to run smoothly. Most restorations take 4 to 8 weeks before shipping. Some are quicker and some take longer, depending on the piece, and we'll give you an estimate when you order. See our restoration process

White glove delivery on most orders in the United States, usually $200 to $600 and 2 to 8 weeks from your order. Worldwide shipping in a custom crate, 2 to 4 months. Local pickup from our warehouse in Denville, New Jersey, and within about 50 miles we may be able to deliver it ourselves at a reduced rate.
