This Model no. 1287 dining table, designed by Harvey Probber in the 1950s, is a majestic embodiment of mid-century modern elegance and innovation. The substantial 2.5-inch thick Brazilian Rosewood top sits on a stately mahogany base, boasting a beautiful Morrocan cut-out detail that adds an exotic touch to its classic design. The table's oval form factor creates a welcoming ambiance, inviting intimate conversations and grand gatherings alike.

The true genius of Probber’s design shines in the table's functionality; it features a heavy-duty geared extension mechanism that remains solid and resolute, without any sag, even when fully extended. It includes four 16-inch leaves, allowing the table to transform from its original 72 inches to an impressive 136 inches, making it one of the longest extendable dining tables of its kind—truly a rare find.

Aside from its striking appearance and remarkable extendability, two additional support legs slide in to provide extra stability for those larger events. This iconic table, a symbol of Harvey Probber's celebrated contributions to mid-century modern design, is as much a collector’s statement piece as it is a testament to impeccable craftsmanship and timeless style.

We plan to finish the top in a medium brown walnut stain with a raw umber glaze and satin lacquer. The base ebonized and satin lacquer.

Condition & Restoration

We photograph each piece in its current condition and offer two ways to purchase: as-pictured or restored. This approach gives you a clear and honest view of the item and allows you to choose the level of finish that best suits your needs.

As-Pictured:
Choosing the as-pictured option means you’ll receive the item in its current state with light cleaning and basic touch-ups completed in our warehouse. We ensure that drawers, doors, and structural elements are functional, but no deep refinishing work is performed. This option is ideal for those who appreciate the charm and patina of original vintage finishes, want to avoid additional restoration costs, or prefer a quicker turnaround without the lead time required for refinishing. It's also a great choice if you’re a collector or designer looking to integrate the piece into a space with a lived-in aesthetic.

Restored:
Selecting the restored option includes our full professional refinishing process. Once selected, the piece is transported to our workshop, where we address surface damage like lacquer failure, chips, water marks, and deep scratches. Our team sands, stains, and seals each surface where appropriate, restoring the finish while preserving the character of the original design. We also carefully adjust doors, drawers, and hardware to ensure smooth operation and reliable function. The result is a fully restored vintage furniture piece, ready for daily use and built to last for decades to come.

This dual-option model gives you the flexibility to choose what’s right for your space, style, and timeline—without compromising on quality or transparency.

Note:
Some items may only be available for purchase with restoration included. In these cases, the original condition does not meet our standards for resale without a full professional refinish.
This ensures that every piece we ship—restored or otherwise—meets the level of quality and functionality we stand behind.

Conversely, certain items—such as lighting, upholstered pieces, or otherwise—are only offered as-pictured, as we typically don’t refinish these types of items.
