This 1960s Young Manufacturing highboy dresser is a strongly sculptural example of American mid century modern design, built in walnut as a two tier chest with a flared, overhanging crown. The upper cabinet is faced with carved panels, each one pierced by a sculpted bowtie shaped cutout that serves as its pull, creating a bold graphic rhythm across the front. Below, three long drawers carry deeply carved oval recessed pulls, and the case rests on splayed legs joined by a shaped, curving stretcher that echoes the sculptural language above.
The upper doors open to reveal a fitted bank of four drawers, well suited to accessories, folded shirts, and smaller items, while the three full width lower drawers handle bulkier everyday storage. The combination stacks a generous amount of organized capacity into a single tall footprint, letting one chest do the work of a full dresser and a valet. This highboy is of the period and unmarked, consistent with Young Manufacturing production.
This highboy dresser is in vintage as-pictured condition, showing wear consistent with age and use including surface wear, finish inconsistencies, and minor imperfections throughout. These characteristics contribute to the original vintage appeal and authenticity that many collectors appreciate. For those looking for a fully refinished example, we also offer a restored option. Restoration includes a complete professional refinishing process with sanding, staining, glazing, toning, and lacquering, along with functional adjustments to ensure all drawers and doors operate smoothly and the furniture is ready for everyday use.
