This 1960s Cado wall system by Poul Cadovius is a fully modular Danish design, and the arrangement shown here is just one example of how it can be set up. Every cabinet and shelf hangs from slim oak rails fixed to the wall, so nothing rests on the floor and each component can be moved up, down, or into a different bay to suit the room. The glass door cabinets, the slotted divider cabinet, and the floating drawer cabinets give the wall a balanced mix of closed and open forms, while the slanted shelves with their raised front lips break up the horizontal lines. The light oak shows an open cathedral grain across the cabinet backs and shelf surfaces, and the drawer fronts carry finger pulls cut directly into the wood.
Nothing about the layout is fixed, so you can design it any way you want, whether that means a display wall in a living room, a desk and storage wall in an office, or a home for records and books in a study. The glass door cabinets hold glass shelves, the divider cabinet is split into eight vertical slots for records, files, or oversized books, each drawer cabinet holds three drawers, and the slanted desk shelves can hold magazines and books or serve as a writing surface. The system comes with:
4 rails, which create 3 bays
3 glass door cabinets (one not pictured)
3 straight shelves
3 slanted desk shelves
1 divider cabinet
2 three drawer cabinets
