This 1970s Peter Lovig flip top desk is a clean piece of Danish cabinetmaking, built in teak with almost nothing on it that is not doing work. A shallow organizer runs across the back of the writing surface, divided into open compartments and a set of narrow vertical slots at the center for paper and envelopes. The drawer fronts below are pulled by round recessed discs cut directly into the teak, spaced evenly across the front so the row reads as a rhythm rather than a line of hardware. The base is a separate frame of squared teak legs joined by stretchers, and the case sits on top of it so the desk reads as a box floating on a trestle.
The flip top is what makes the desk unusual. The rear organizer section folds down flat, extending the writing surface to a much larger working area, and because it opens outward the desk can be used from the front or the back with two people working across from each other. Left up, it keeps the surface compact and the compartments within reach. Four drawers run beneath the top for files and supplies, one fitted with a lock, and the open trestle base leaves clear legroom on both sides, which is what allows the desk to sit in the middle of a room rather than against a wall.
This desk is in vintage as-pictured condition, showing wear consistent with age and use including surface wear, finish inconsistencies, and minor imperfections throughout. These characteristics contribute to the original vintage appeal and authenticity that many collectors appreciate. For those looking for a fully refinished example, we also offer a restored option. Restoration includes a complete professional refinishing process with sanding, staining, glazing, toning, and lacquering, along with functional adjustments to ensure all drawers operate smoothly and the desk is ready for everyday use.

Condition & Restoration
Condition & Restoration
We photograph each piece in its current condition and offer two ways to purchase: as-pictured or restored. This approach gives you a clear and honest view of the item and allows you to choose the level of finish that best suits your needs.
As-Pictured:
Choosing the as-pictured option means youβll receive the item in its current state with light cleaning and basic touch-ups completed in our warehouse. We ensure that drawers, doors, and structural elements are functional, but no deep refinishing work is performed. This option is ideal for those who appreciate the charm and patina of original vintage finishes, want to avoid additional restoration costs, or prefer a quicker turnaround without the lead time required for refinishing. It's also a great choice if youβre a collector or designer looking to integrate the piece into a space with a lived-in aesthetic.
Restored:
Selecting the restored option includes our full professional refinishing process. Once selected, the piece is transported to our workshop, where we address surface damage like lacquer failure, chips, water marks, and deep scratches. Our team sands, stains, and seals each surface where appropriate, restoring the finish while preserving the character of the original design. We also carefully adjust doors, drawers, and hardware to ensure smooth operation and reliable function. The result is a fully restored vintage furniture piece, ready for daily use and built to last for decades to come.
This dual-option model gives you the flexibility to choose whatβs right for your space, style, and timelineβwithout compromising on quality or transparency.
Note:
Some items may only be available for purchase with restoration included. In these cases, the original condition does not meet our standards for resale without a full professional refinish.
This ensures that every piece we shipβrestored or otherwiseβmeets the level of quality and functionality we stand behind.
Conversely, certain itemsβsuch as lighting, upholstered pieces, or otherwiseβare only offered as-pictured, as we typically donβt refinish these types of items.
