This 1960s Lane "First Edition" armoire is a handsome example of American mid century modern design, built in warm walnut with a tall, architectural profile. A pair of vertically reeded doors gives the upper cabinet a richly textured, fluted front, while three sculpted, bullnose drawers below add soft, rounded relief. The whole wardrobe is raised on splayed, tapered legs that lighten its tall stance and lend it a clean, modern silhouette.
Behind the reeded doors, the cabinet is fitted as a gentleman's wardrobe: a center-divided interior with shelving creates four open compartments, a mirror is mounted to the inside of one door and a metal tie-and-belt rack to the other, and a concealed interior drawer sits below. Three roomy exterior drawers, each with sculpted recessed wooden pulls and dovetailed solid-wood boxes, handle folded clothing. It is a versatile storage piece for a bedroom, dressing area, or entry, and is marked Lane.
This armoire is in vintage as-pictured condition, showing wear consistent with age and use including surface wear, finish inconsistencies, and minor imperfections throughout, including finish wear to the drawer fronts and some finish loss to the interior of the doors as shown in the photos. These characteristics contribute to the original vintage appeal and authenticity that many collectors appreciate. For those looking for a fully refinished example, we also offer a restored option. Restoration includes a complete professional refinishing process with sanding, staining, glazing, toning, and lacquering, along with functional adjustments to ensure all drawers and doors operate smoothly and the armoire is ready for everyday use.
