Hooker Furniture Company, established in Martinsville, Virginia in 1924, developed the Mainline collection in the early 1960s as one of their flagship mid-century modern offerings. Designed to capture the clean, functional aesthetic that defined the era, Mainline pieces balance restrained Scandinavian-influenced form with the proud craftsmanship traditions of the American furniture industry — producing work that continues to attract serious collectors and design enthusiasts today.
This executive writing desk is a standout example of the Mainline line at its most refined. The case presents a confident, horizontal profile anchored by a raised gallery rail running the full width of the back — a practical and visually distinctive feature that adds depth and formality. Flanking the central kneehole, two symmetrical pedestals house a total of four drawers fitted with small round pulls, providing generous and well-organized storage. Open compartments above each pedestal offer additional display or utility space. The whole piece rests on slender, tapering front legs that lift the case elegantly off the floor and lend the desk its characteristic mid-century lightness.
Throughout, the piece is finished in richly grained walnut, displaying the warm reddish-brown tones and varied figure characteristic of this prized American hardwood.

This option is ideal for those who appreciate the charm and patina of original vintage finishes, want to avoid additional restoration costs, or prefer a quicker turnaround without the lead time required for refinishing. It's also a great choice if you’re a collector or designer looking to integrate the piece into a space with a lived-in aesthetic.
Restored:
Selecting the restored option includes our full professional refinishing process. Once selected, the piece is transported to our workshop, where we address surface damage like lacquer failure, chips, water marks, and deep scratches. Our team sands, stains, and seals each surface where appropriate, restoring the finish while preserving the character of the original design. We also carefully adjust doors, drawers, and hardware to ensure smooth operation and reliable function. The result is a fully restored vintage furniture piece, ready for daily use and built to last for decades to come.
This dual-option model gives you the flexibility to choose what’s right for your space, style, and timeline—without compromising on quality or transparency.
