This stunning 1960s vintage Mid Century Modern king size headboard is a beautiful example of Nakashima-style design, emphasizing organic form, natural materials, and sculptural simplicity. Strongly influenced by the work of George Nakashima, the piece showcases a gently curved silhouette with subtly flared edges, creating a sense of movement and softness across its wide span. Crafted in richly grained walnut, the design highlights the natural character of the wood, with flowing grain patterns and a minimalist, studio furniture aesthetic that reflects the timeless philosophy of Nakashima’s work.

A distinctive horizontal inset light panel runs across the center, adding both visual interest and functional ambiance. The integrated lighting casts a soft, warm glow, making it an ideal focal point for a bedroom while also serving as a practical built-in reading or mood light. The open stretcher base and clean vertical supports enhance the architectural feel while maintaining an airy, balanced presence that pairs effortlessly with both mid-century and contemporary interiors.

This headboard is in vintage original condition with visible wear consistent with age and use, including surface marks and imperfections as shown in the photos. The light is present and adds a unique functional element to the piece. It is available as-is for those who appreciate original character, or can be professionally restored. Restoration would involve a full refinishing process, including sanding the wood down, staining, and lacquering, resulting in a refreshed finish while preserving the integrity and sculptural beauty of the original design.
