This 1960s Edmond Spence highboy dresser is a striking example of Swedish mid century modern design, built in warm walnut with a bold, graphic presence. The two-section case pairs an upper cabinet of book-matched doors with a bank of drawers whose fronts are laid up in Spence's signature woven, checkerboard pattern, alternating blocks of vertical and horizontal grain that catch the light from every angle. The entire piece is raised on tall, square tapered legs, giving the substantial form a light, architectural stance.
The upper cabinet opens on a pair of doors to a fitted interior with shaped vertical dividers, ideal for folded sweaters, bags, or display, while four graduated drawers below offer generous everyday storage. Each drawer rides on dovetailed solid-wood boxes and is fitted with recessed wooden inset pulls that keep the woven facade clean and uninterrupted. Restored:
Selecting the restored option includes our full professional refinishing process. Once selected, the piece is transported to our workshop, where we address surface damage like lacquer failure, chips, water marks, and deep scratches. Our team sands, stains, and seals each surface where appropriate, restoring the finish while preserving the character of the original design. We also carefully adjust doors, drawers, and hardware to ensure smooth operation and reliable function. The result is a fully restored vintage furniture piece, ready for daily use and built to last for decades to come.
