This 1960s American room divider is a well resolved example of mid century modern case design, built in walnut with an open, asymmetrical grid of shelving above a low storage base. The uprights and shelves are staggered so no two openings are the same size, which gives the upper half a light, graphic quality and lets objects sit in the frame rather than in rows. The side panels narrow as they rise, the lower cabinet doors are carved with raised vertical panels, and the whole unit stands on slim tapered legs that keep a tall case from feeling heavy.
The layout covers display, bar, and everyday storage in one footprint. A drop-front compartment sits at the center of the unit, and on the left a pair of doors opens to a cabinet fitted with an overhead stemware rack, while two wide drawers on the right carry recessed wooden pulls for linens, records, or paperwork. The back is finished in the same walnut and a long plain base panel, so the unit can stand free in a room as a true divider between living and dining spaces or sit against a wall as a bookcase and bar.
This room divider is in vintage as-pictured condition, showing wear consistent with age and use including surface wear, finish inconsistencies, and minor imperfections throughout. These characteristics contribute to the original vintage appeal and authenticity that many collectors appreciate. For those looking for a fully refinished example, we also offer a restored option. Restoration includes a complete professional refinishing process with sanding, staining, glazing, toning, and lacquering, along with functional adjustments to ensure all doors, drawers, and the drop-front operate smoothly and the wall unit is ready for everyday use.
